Keep Going: “Dear 20-Year-Old Me”

What is something you wish you could tell your 20-year-old self?

There are moments in life when we wish we could travel back in time—not to change the past, but to share a few words of wisdom with the person we once were. If I had the opportunity to write a letter to my 20-year-old self, the message would be simple yet powerful: Keep going.

At 20, life feels like a race. Everyone seems to have a plan, a purpose, and a clear direction. You often compare your journey to others and wonder if you’re falling behind. The truth is that no one has everything figured out. The uncertainty you feel today is not a sign of failure; it is a natural part of growth.

Dear 20-year-old me,

I know you’re worried about making the right decisions. You’re afraid of choosing the wrong career path, disappointing people, and not achieving your dreams quickly enough. But let me tell you something important: life is not measured by how fast you succeed but by how consistently you move forward.

There will be setbacks. Some plans will fail. Opportunities you desperately wanted may slip away. There will be days when you question your abilities and wonder whether your efforts are worth it. During those moments, remember this: every challenge is preparing you for something greater. The obstacles you face are not stopping you; they are shaping you.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes are some of life’s greatest teachers. The lessons you learn from failure will often be more valuable than the rewards of success. Embrace the process of learning, growing, and becoming.

Take care of your relationships. Success means little if you have no one to share it with. Spend time with family, cherish genuine friendships, and never underestimate the value of kindness. The people who support you during difficult seasons are treasures that money cannot buy.

Believe in yourself, even when others don’t. There will be times when your dreams seem unrealistic to everyone around you. Stay committed to your vision. Confidence is not about knowing you’ll never fail; it’s about trusting yourself enough to continue despite uncertainty.

Most importantly, be patient. Great things take time. The person you aspire to become is being built one day, one decision, and one challenge at a time. Growth is often invisible while it is happening, but one day you’ll look back and realize how far you’ve come.

So when life feels overwhelming, when progress seems slow, and when doubt tries to take control, remember these two words:

Keep going.

The future holds opportunities, experiences, and achievements you cannot yet imagine. The struggles you face today will become stories of resilience tomorrow. Trust the journey, embrace the lessons, and continue moving forward.

With gratitude and wisdom,

Your Older Self
