Patience And Tolerance Makes A Great Teacher

What makes a teacher great?

Someone I know once said that she could never be a teacher, that even if teachers are been paid a million naira per month, that teaching is not for her because she is not patience enough.

Students are very pesky and so scenic most times. A teacher who has temper issues will always lose it. The two most significant facets of a great teacher are having the spirit of patience and tolerance, being patient with their shortcomings, and also being able to tolerate their excesses.

What Makes A teacher Great

Teachers are builders, they are role models, instructors, and inspirational. Accolades should be given to every teacher all over the world and also be highly recognized and appreciated. Other professions would not have been in existence without the teachers.

A Teacher has been defined by many scholars. Although all scholars refers to the teaching profession, the TUKI dictionary defines a teacher as a person who teaches or facilitates the learning process (TUKI 1981-201).

 A teacher is also “an expert who is capable of imparting knowledge that will help learners to build, identify and to acquire skills that will be used to face the challenges in life. The teacher also provides to the learners knowledge, skills, and values that enhance development.”(Senge 2000:26) Thus, A teacher is a person who provides education for pupils and students.

A great teacher should have these qualities ;

1. Knowledge and wisdom

2. Effective communication skill

3. Problem solving

4. Adaptability

5. Organization and collaboration

6. Emotional Intelligence

7. Active listening

8. Self confidence

9. Patience and compassion

10. Empathy

The ability to listen and then communicates, and the knowledge of multifarious problem-solving skills make a tremendous teacher.
