What’s one piece of travel advice you always follow?

Traveling can be one of the most exciting experiences in life. Whether I’m visiting a new city, exploring a different country, or simply going somewhere I’ve never been before, I love the thought of discovering new places, meeting different people, and creating beautiful memories. But as exciting as traveling can be, I believe staying safe is just as important as enjoying the journey.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about traveling, it’s that being prepared and paying attention to my surroundings can make all the difference. In fact, there are two pieces of travel advice I always keep in mind: verify my transportation and trust my instincts.
- Always Verify Your Transportation
One of the first things I think about whenever I’m traveling is how I’ll get to my destination safely.
I never want to assume that a vehicle, driver, or transportation arrangement is trustworthy simply because everything looks fine at first. I believe it’s important to confirm the details before getting into a vehicle, especially when I’m in an unfamiliar place.
For example, if I’ve booked a ride, I make sure the vehicle and driver’s details match what I’ve been given. If I’m using a taxi or another transportation service, I take a moment to confirm that I’m getting into the right vehicle.
I also prefer to plan my transportation ahead of time whenever possible. Knowing how I’ll get to my destination gives me peace of mind and helps me avoid making rushed decisions.
To me, a few minutes spent checking the details are always worth it. I’d rather take my time and feel secure than hurry into a situation I haven’t properly considered
2. Trust Your Instincts
The second piece of advice I always remember is to trust my instincts.
Have you ever been in a situation where everything seemed perfectly normal, yet something inside you told you to be careful? I believe those feelings deserve attention.
When traveling, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of exploring somewhere new. Sometimes, we want to be polite, avoid offending people, or convince ourselves that we’re overthinking a situation. But I’ve come to appreciate the importance of listening to that inner voice telling me to pause and pay attention.
If a person, place, or situation makes me uncomfortable, I don’t believe I need to ignore that feeling just to appear friendly. I can politely excuse myself, change my plans, or move somewhere safer.
Trusting your instincts doesn’t mean assuming everyone has bad intentions. It simply means paying attention, staying aware, and giving yourself permission to walk away when something doesn’t feel right.
Your safety is more important than pleasing a stranger or worrying about what someone might think of you.

Why I Believe These Two Travel Tips Matter
For me, traveling safely isn’t about being afraid of the world. It’s about being wise enough to enjoy it without taking unnecessary risks.
Verifying my transportation helps me make informed decisions before I begin a journey, while trusting my instincts reminds me to stay alert along the way.
Of course, no precaution can guarantee complete safety, but taking sensible steps can reduce avoidable risks and help me feel more confident wherever I go.
I also believe it’s important to share these reminders with friends and family, especially those traveling alone or visiting unfamiliar destinations for the first time.
Sometimes, the simplest advice can make the biggest difference
