What app eats up most of your screen time — and do you even feel bad about it?
Let me confess something.
There is an app that has been shamelessly eating up my screen time. It doesn’t knock on my door. It doesn’t ask for permission. It simply waits patiently for me to pick up my phone, and before I know it, I’ve spent another considerable amount of time navigating through it.
And the funny part?
I don’t even feel guilty about it. Not one bit.
In fact, I am writing this because I just saw this very prompt on the app that eats up most of my screen time and thought, Well, since you asked…
WordPress.

Yes, WordPress.
More specifically, I love navigating WordPress through the Jetpack app. And honestly, if you ever see me staring intensely at my phone, tapping away like I am solving a national crisis, there is a good chance I am not doing anything dramatic.
I am probably on Jetpack.
Checking my blog.
Reading someone’s post.
Responding to a comment.
Checking my stats.
Looking at notifications.
Reading another interesting article.
And then, somehow, I find myself reading something else entirely.
One minute, I am checking my blog statistics.
The next minute, I am reading someone’s deeply thoughtful reflection on life.
Then I stumble upon a funny post that makes me laugh.
Then I discover an interesting perspective from someone living thousands of miles away.
Before I know it, I’ve gone down the WordPress rabbit hole.
And honestly?
I regret absolutely nothing.
Why on Earth Would I Feel Bad About It?
People often talk about screen time as if every minute spent looking at a screen is automatically a minute wasted.
“Put your phone down.”
“Go outside.”
“Touch grass.”
“Stop scrolling.”
And yes, sometimes we probably should do all of those things.
But I think it depends on what you’re doing with your screen time.

There is a difference between spending hours mindlessly scrolling and spending hours connecting with people, learning, reading, writing, thinking, and creating.
My time on WordPress doesn’t feel like wasted time.
It feels like I am stepping into a huge room filled with people I may never have met in real life, but whose thoughts, stories, experiences, and personalities I get to know through their words.
And what a beautiful thing that is.
I have met kind people.
Nice people.
Funny people.
Interesting people.
People with unique personalities that make you stop and think, Wow, I really enjoy this person’s perspective.
I’ve encountered people with diverse intellectual prowess, people who can make you laugh in one post and make you question everything you thought you knew in another.
And then there are the readers.
My amazing readers and subscribers.
The people who take the time to read what I write.
The people who leave comments.
The people who encourage me.
The people who keep coming back.
How could I possibly feel bad about spending time in a place where I get to connect with such wonderful people?
Tell me.
Why on earth would I feel guilty about that?
WordPress Has Become More Than Just an App
For me, WordPress isn’t just a platform where I publish blog posts.
It has become a little community.
A place where ideas travel from one mind to another.
A place where someone’s experience can teach you something.
Where a stranger’s story can make you laugh.
Where someone’s vulnerability can remind you that you’re not alone.
Where a random thought written by someone you’ve never met can stay in your mind for days.
And sometimes, you don’t even realize how much you’ve learned until you look back.
That’s what makes it special to me.
I don’t just consume content here.
I connect with it.
I don’t just read people’s words.
I get glimpses into their minds.
And sometimes, I don’t just meet writers.
I meet people.
Real people with real stories, real personalities, real struggles, real humor, and real perspectives.
So yes, my screen time may be telling a very interesting story.
But I am not ashamed of the plot.
Is There Such a Thing as “Good” Screen Time?
I think there is.
If your screen time consists entirely of watching videos until you forget what year it is, then perhaps you should be concerned.
If you pick up your phone at 8 p.m. and suddenly realize it’s 2 a.m., and you have no idea what you’ve been doing for the last six hours, that’s probably a sign.
But if you are using your screen to create something, learn something, connect with people, discover new ideas, or simply find a little joy, then maybe the conversation about screen time needs a little more nuance.
Not all screen time is created equal.
Sometimes, the screen is a distraction.
Sometimes, it’s a classroom.
Sometimes, it’s a library.
Sometimes, it’s a workplace.
Sometimes, it’s a window into another person’s world.
And sometimes, apparently, it’s where you discover a writing prompt that makes you realize just how much time you spend on an app.
The irony is not lost on me.
So, Do I Feel Bad About My Screen Time?
No.
Well… maybe a tiny bit.
Perhaps I should go outside more.
Perhaps I should spend less time checking notifications.
Perhaps I should stop refreshing my stats every five minutes as if WordPress is suddenly going to announce that I have become an overnight global celebrity.
But feel bad about connecting with amazing people?
Absolutely not.
I am grateful for the people I have met here.
I am grateful for the conversations.
I am grateful for the laughter.
I am grateful for the ideas.
I am grateful for my readers and subscribers who make the time I spend here meaningful.

So, if WordPress is the app that eats up most of my screen time, then I suppose I’ll let it have a few more bites.
After all, not everything that eats up your time is eating away at your life.
Sometimes, the thing consuming your time is also giving something back.
For me, WordPress has given me a community, a creative outlet, amazing readers, and the opportunity to connect with people I might never have encountered otherwise.
And that, my friends, is one kind of screen time I am happy to defend.
Now, if you’ll excuse me…
I think I need to check my Jetpack notifications.
Just one quick look.
I promise.
Okay, maybe two.
Fine. You caught me.
I’ll probably be there for another hour. 😂

I agree with you 💯
The only app that steals time and somehow gives it back with interest. 😄📖
Exactly, I couldn’t agree more 🙂💪
I probably spend more time on WordPress than I do on any other app, but I feel like I’m a lot more productive on WordPress than I am on, let’s say, TikTok.
That’s good to hear, Rob, and thank you for sharing 🙏🙂
For me the same. Well written
Thank you, Priti

One thing I love about WordPress is that behind every post is a real person with a unique story, perspective, and personality. ❤️ I’ve met some truly amazing people here, and my readers and subscribers make it even more special. What is the best thing you’ve gained from the app that takes up most of your screen time? 😊
😂😂 I came here thinking I would confess my screen-time crime, but now I want to know yours! What app is currently winning the battle for your attention, and do you feel guilty about it—or are you proudly unapologetic? 👀👇
