Understanding Human Beings: 6 Principles of Human Behaviour

Understanding Human Beings

Human beings are like a mirror, and once you don’t see through them, you will never get to understand them or know them.

Though behaviour is sometimes faked and misinterpreted, it will only last a short time because we can’t cheat nature, no matter how hard we try. What we feel inside, or our emotional state, shows through our body language, actions, and speech.

Body language is a major factor in understanding human beings, and mastering it gives clear directives for knowing them better.

Principles In Understanding Human Beings

There are numerous principles in understanding individuals, but here, we will be discussing only 6 principles.

1. Know that we behave differently

Behaviour is the way a living creature expresses itself, and it is always guided by emotions. We act out what we feel; if someone is sad or angry, a gloomy face will be expressed, and it will affect everyone around them. But if someone is happy and excited, a smile and laughter will be expressed, and it makes people around them happy and elated.

In other words, as individuals are different in all ramifications, so is their behaviour, and in understanding them, you must learn to understand their behaviour and the reason for it. And I think looking further to knowing the reason behind a behaviour will pave the way to mastering an individual better, not the behaviour portrayed.

Many times, without considering these facts, we always end up with wrong judgment about people, which might  result in hatred and  resentment

2. See from their own perspective

People will definitely trust you when they are assured of the right to their feelings, thoughts, and ideas without contradiction. Make them feel comfortable with you, be empathetic, be understanding, and don’t judge them. When you build rapport genuinely, they will be free and open with you.

3. Master their mood

Understanding people begins with understanding their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour.

Naturally, our moods are not always stable. The instability can be caused by psychological, physical, emotional, or spiritual factors. Every behaviour an individual portrays at any given time is a result of the state of their mood. It is sometimes deceitful, and we wouldn’t be able to control it. Someone who is in a bad mood will be frustrated, devastated, angry, and confused, whereas someone who is in a good mood will be happy, focused, motivated, and relaxed. So, to get to know them better, you need to understand their state of mind at any given time, and that will give you leverage when approaching them.

4. Allow them to make decisions

When you have mastered their moods, don’t force them into making any decisions; allow them to think and decide for themselves what they want to do. Because it is easier to carry out a decision that one makes for themselves than one that is being imposed on them.

People see themselves as being unique, and allowing them to make decisions for themselves will make them feel complete.

5. Give necessary aids

All you have to do is support others in any way you can, starting with respecting their boundaries, opinions, and decisions. Always assure them you will be available for them whenever they need you.

Some people only need someone they can trust. Make them believe they are safe with you, and make sure not to disappoint them. As time goes on, you will come to realise that what they need is the simplest things and nothing more.

Why do people behave differently

6. Avoid comparison

Comparing an individual with another makes them feel inferior and unwanted. It is better to encourage them than to compare them to anyone. This makes people really uncomfortable and irritated because they think that others are better than them, and this can result in an inferiority complex, anger, hatred, and other negative vices.

These are clearly stipulated explanations of the processes of understanding human beings, so there is no magic in getting to know your fellow person; all you have to do is apply these principles, and many others that are not mentioned here, and you will see yourself getting along so well with others. ☺️
