What bores you?
This prompt reminds me of the experience I had at work yesterday. So I had this argument with a colleague about an effective way to complete a task. So I was trying to make her understand that everyone is not the same when it comes to tasks, that the manner in which I might choose to do mine might be different from another’s.
In fact, I told her how I would have handled the situation if I were in her position. But she was so indifferent about what I said and vehemently disagreed with me. She said that it was easy for me to say and conclude because I wasn’t in the person’s shoes, and that if I were in the person’s position, I wouldn’t even do any of what I just said.
What shocked me the most was her certainty, I was saying exactly what I can do and what I cannot do and you are already doubting my capability even before I tried.
So at a point, I got bored and disappointed about the whole fiasco and decided to mind my business because the argument was no longer making any sense.
But as I walked away, I still pondered why it’s so difficult for people to understand and respect people’s opinions. If someone made a point about effort if you cannot encourage them, at least don’t say anything, or say something that would discourage them or make them feel less of themselves and doubt their capabilities.
So yes, what really bores me is when people doubt my capability without even giving me the benefit of the doubt, I mean it’s so overwhelming and draining to try to over explain yourself in order to convince people to understand you.
But I don’t believe such people are worth it. You don’t need to stress in order to make people believe in you, if they can’t believe you when you’re honest about your strength, even when you finally did it, they still won’t believe you did it on your own.
So what is the point of always trying to prove yourself to people who don’t have faith in you, people who doubt everything and everyone? You don’t need anyone’s permission to shine, just like the sun, it doesn’t need anyone’s permission to shine, it just shines and everyone has to adapt to it.
But the most important lesson here is to say what you mean, and mean what you say. Know yourself and your strength, and only choose a goal that equates to your strength, and do what you can one step at a time.
Have you ever found yourself in this situation? Let me know in the comment. I would love to hear your story ❤️
The most important thing in life is to focus on your growth and what makes you happy, then whatever others think is temporary.
