What’s a book you never finished but still think about?

For me, the honest answer is simple: I don’t think there is one.
Not because I have finished every book I have ever picked up without struggle, but because of the way I read. When I start a book, I want to finish it. I want to go through the journey the author has created, understand the message, digest the ideas, and experience the story as a whole.
To me, that is what makes a book truly meaningful.
I love reading, but I don’t just want to turn pages. I want to understand what I am reading. I want the words to stay with me after I close the book. Sometimes, I even pause while reading because a particular sentence or idea makes me think deeply.
And that is why finishing a book matters to me.
You Can’t Judge the Whole Story From the Beginning
Think about watching a movie.
Imagine watching only the first thirty minutes of a two-hour movie and then saying, “That was such an interesting movie.”
You might have enjoyed what you saw, but you haven’t experienced the entire story. You don’t know how the characters developed, how the conflict was resolved, or how the story ended.
Reading a book is much the same.
A book may begin slowly. It may even feel uninteresting at first. But somewhere along the way, something can change—the message becomes clearer, the story becomes deeper, or an idea suddenly connects with something happening in your own life.
Sometimes, the best part of a book is found several chapters after the part where you were tempted to stop.

Finishing Helps Me Understand
For me, finishing a book isn’t simply about being able to say, “I read this book.”
It is about being able to say, “I understood this book.”
There is something satisfying about reaching the final page and then sitting quietly with what you have just read.
What was the author trying to tell me?
What did I learn?
What challenged my thinking?
What will I remember?
What can I apply to my own life?
That process of digesting a book is what makes reading meaningful to me.
A book isn’t just something to consume quickly. Sometimes, it is something to sit with.
Every Book Leaves Something Behind
Not every book will become a favourite.
Not every book will change your life.
Not every book will be beautifully written.
But I believe there is something to learn from almost every book we allow ourselves to finish.
Some books give us knowledge.
Some give us perspective.
Some entertain us.
Some challenge our beliefs.
Some introduce us to worlds we have never known.
And some simply remind us of something we had forgotten about ourselves.
But we discover those things by staying until the end.
Maybe That’s Why I Don’t Have an Unfinished Book I Still Think About
When I think about the question again, I realize that my answer says something about how much I love reading.
If a book has captured my attention enough for me to keep thinking about it, then I want to know how it ends.
I want the complete picture.
I want to finish the journey before I decide what the journey meant to me.
For me, an unfinished book is an unfinished conversation. And I don’t think I can fully appreciate what someone is trying to tell me until they have finished speaking.
So, if you ask me, “What’s a book you never finished but still think about?”
My answer would probably remain:
None.
Because when I start a book, I want to finish it, understand it, and digest it. And perhaps that is one of the reasons reading continues to mean so much to me.
What about you? Is there a book you never finished but still think about—or do you also believe a book needs to be finished before you can truly appreciate it?

I appreciate your thoughts on this and when I read a book I do like read every sentence and mull over words and think about what the author has been doing. Mostly I read a book from beginning to end but there are some books, just a few, which don’t do it for me. As I tend to read in bed at night I like to feel that I really want to read the book rather than trudge through out of duty. I feel that while I may not like a particular book there are plenty of other readers who will. And there are plenty of other books that I will want to read.
You have said it all, Marie. Thank you for your thoughtful words
You are welcome!
what book ?
Not one, not two, but many
Have you finished thinking fast and slow? That’s the book of Kahneman Ive read only a few chapters bit didn’t finished and it will be my answer if I do this prompt.
Sounds like an interesting read. But why didn’t you finish it?
Your reading philosophy is rather disciplined. I suspect unfinished books are sitting somewhere wondering whether they will ever be given a second chance.
Exactly, and they would be wondering why you started reading them in the first place if you weren’t going to finish them 🤣
So true! Sometimes the books that take time to unfold end up staying with us the longest. 🤍🦋📚
Absolutely, I agree with you
Some books are easy to finish, while others require patience. But there’s something special about reaching the last page and finally understanding the full journey. 📚✨ What’s the last book you finished that stayed with you?
I honestly believe you need to finish a book before you can truly understand its message. 📖❤️ What do you think—can an unfinished book still leave a lasting impact on you?
