Which book have you read more than any other?
When it comes to a book that I have read more than others, or should I say more than once, or rather multiple times, then it would be Americana by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I got this book back then at Uni in 2014, and I read it every year because I love it so much. To me, it’s not just any book; it reminds me of who I am, even when others don’t accept me or recognize me.
Americanah is a 2013 novel by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It follows two young lovers, Ifemelu and Obinze, who leave military-ruled Nigeria. Ifemelu moves to America, where she grapples with race and identity, while Obinze faces an undocumented life in London before they reunite in Lagos.
The awareness of one’s race is a central theme in Americanah, particularly how it differs between Nigeria and America. In her original home, Ifemelu doesn’t recognize her Black identity. The U.S. exposes her to discrimination.
This book opens my eyes to a whole lot of things. It is about love, race, independence, and identity.
But despite their separation, the challenges Ifemelu faced in America, trying so hard to belong in a country that sees only her skin color, coupled with the identity struggles, and Obinze, on the other hand, working really hard to establish himself, they were finally united in love.
This book reminds me that love always conquers, even when it seems or looks impossible, even when others believe it won’t happen, or when it feels like it’s not possible, love always wins, and I believe so much in love.
Even if you are separated from someone you love, and they love you back by seen or unforeseen circumstances, the universe has a way of bringing you both back to each other, and when that happens, nothing else matters.
Truth be told, I love this book and every other book by the author, and I still do. I can go to the moon and back for her books 😄😊
