The Promise I Made to Myself That I Actually Kept: Leaving my Comfort Zone

What’s a promise you made to yourself that you’ve actually kept?

All my life, I have always wanted more, and I wanted to be more for myself and make my family proud.

There is this inner voice that always whispers to me

You need to do more”

You need to keep pushing

You can’t give up”

And each time, I repeat them consciously and affirm that so shall it be.

Leaving my comfort zone was never an easy decision, but I am happy and glad that I made that decision, and that is a promise I made to myself that I have actually kept.

I PROMISE MYSELF I WOULD LEAVE MY COMFORT ZONE, and I kept that promise

Was it easy?

No!

Did I regret it!

Never!

But it was never easy, I must confess. I stayed for months without a job, without money, and because I had promised myself that I would live independently, I had to do everything on my own and keep everything to myself.

There are nights I just lay awake, not because I was allergic to sleep, but because sleep had eluded me, because my mind is full of thoughts I had no control over.

Thoughts of:

How I was going to make it

What if I didn’t make it

What would become of me

Is this what independent life is all about

And also, there are other nights when I couldn’t hold the tears any longer, and they just fall like an avalanche.

But I am grateful for everything, for the woman I am becoming, for the experiences life has taught me, both good and bad, for the people in my life.

I haven’t gotten there yet, but it’s a process. Life is a journey, and I believe I will get there someday by the special grace of God Almighty.

I thank God for how far He has brought me, and for the journey ahead, I hope and believe that His mercy and goodness will always be my armor and shield.

  1. You made yourself a promise, and you honoured it even when life became difficult. That is something to be proud of.

  2. “A Room of One’s Own” by Virginia Woolf inspired me to move out on my own, with no support from my parents. I needed total independence from them to really grow up.

  3. What’s one promise you made to yourself that you have actually kept? I’d love to hear your story. Sometimes, the things we have overcome are the stories that inspire others the most. ❤️

  4. Sometimes the hardest promise to keep is the one we make to ourselves. But when you look back and realize you kept going despite the tears, uncertainty, and sleepless nights, you realize just how strong you’ve become. ❤️🙏
